Biomass Processing System - ToronBPS™ 200B

Biomass Processing System for Green Methanol and Hydrogen

This Biomass Processing System shreds, sizes, and compresses agricultural and wood residue into briquettes for green methanol and hydrogen feedstock applications. Green methanol producers, hydrogen production facilities, and biomass fuel processors use it to convert bulky, low-density material such as reeds, peanut straw, and waste wood into a dense, uniform briquette suitable for gasification feedstock. Torontech built the system as a modular line combining bale shredding, two-stage fine shredding, uniform feeding, and briquette molding.

Baled or bulk biomass enters through the metal chain conveyor and passes through a primary biomass shredder, then a second biomass shredder for finer size reduction. This two-stage shredding sequence reduces material to the particle size the molding machine requires, rather than feeding coarse material directly into the pelletizer. A material splitter evens out material flow before a feeding machine delivers a consistent stream into the biomass pelletizer for briquetting.

Each unit in the production line is modularly designed so that one unit's operation does not depend on the stability of another, and the entire line can be configured with integrated negative-pressure dust collection for a safer, cleaner operating environment.

Biomass Processing System - ToronBPS™ 200B Applications

Biomass Processing System

This Biomass Processing System serves operations that need to convert bulky agricultural or wood residue into a densified briquette feedstock.

  • Green Methanol Production: prepares densified biomass briquettes as gasification feedstock for green methanol synthesis
  • Hydrogen Production from Biomass: supplies uniform, dense feedstock for biomass-to-hydrogen gasification processes
  • Agricultural Residue Recycling: processes reeds, peanut straw, and similar herbaceous residue into briquette form
  • Waste Wood and Palm Waste Utilization: converts waste wood and palm processing residue into briquettes for fuel or feedstock use
  • Biomass Fuel and Power Generation: produces briquettes suitable for co-firing and biomass boiler applications

Biomass Processing System - ToronBPS™ 200B Key Features

This Biomass Processing System combines shredding, feeding, and briquette molding into a modular line built for consistent gasification feedstock production.

  • Bale Shredding: the primary biomass shredder breaks down baled material directly, without requiring manual debaling
  • Two-Stage Shredding: sequential primary and secondary shredding stages reduce material to the fine particle size the molding machine requires
  • Briquetting: the biomass pelletizer compresses shredded material into dense, uniform briquettes suitable for gasification feedstock
  • Modular Line Design: each processing unit operates independently, limiting how a single unit's downtime affects the rest of the line
  • material splitter: evens out material flow between shredding and molding stages for consistent briquette quality
  • Negative-Pressure Dust Collection (Optional): the line can be configured with integrated dust collection for a safer, cleaner operating environment

Theory and Method

Biomass Processing System

The two-stage shredding sequence reduces bulky, low-density biomass through a progressive shearing action rather than a single reduction pass. The primary biomass shredder breaks down baled or bulk material using counter-rotating shafts that tear rather than cut, handling the variable density and fiber length of reeds, straw, and wood residue. The secondary biomass shredder then reduces the material further to the fine particle size the pelletizer needs, since briquetting requires a consistent, small feedstock size to compress uniformly.

The biomass pelletizer compresses the fine, uniformly fed material under mechanical pressure, forcing it through a die to form dense briquettes. Compression increases the material's bulk density substantially compared to the loose shredded feedstock, which reduces the volume needed for storage and transport and produces a more consistent, higher-energy-density feedstock for downstream gasification.

The modular design separates each processing unit so that shredding, distribution, feeding, and molding operate independently. This limits the impact of a single unit's downtime on the rest of the line and allows the material splitter to buffer flow variability between the shredding stages and the pelletizer, keeping the molding stage fed at a consistent rate.
