ACR (Albumin/Creatinine Ratio) - Accurate Indicator of Microalbuminuria
- Microalbuminuria is a sensitive indicator of early kidney damage in a diabetes or in hypertension.
- ACR is a reliable marker as it as not affected by factors such as hyperglycemia, exercise, fever, protein intake in the diet and drugs, and more convenient than UAE (gold standard of microalbuminuria diagnosis).
- The KDOQI Diabetic Nephrology Guidelines and the American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommended ACR as the preferred method for screening microalbuminuria in 2007.
- Microalbuminuria is defined as ACR ≥3.5 mg/mmol (female) or 2.5 mg/mmol (male).
