All primary functions are controlled by electric motors and gas springs working in concert: the backrest and knee gatch functions are achieved via gas spring, while height and Trendelenburg/reverse Trendelenburg adjustments are electrically driven. Foot pedals at both the head and foot sides of the stretcher provide secondary height and tilt adjustment access, ensuring operational continuity even in high-demand situations. Four corner bumpers protect the stretcher and surrounding environment during stretcher transportation in confined hospital corridors, while push handles at the end of the bed enable two-caregiver-assisted stretcher transport in narrow spaces.

The ToronCare™ 1180 E integrates electric motors with gas-spring mechanisms to achieve smooth, proportionally controlled motion across all positioning axes. Electric motor drives handle height adjustment (790 to 565 mm, bed board to ground) and Trendelenburg / reverse Trendelenburg tilt (0° to 12°), delivering precise, repeatable positioning via electronic control. The backrest (0° to 70°) and knee gatch (0° to 40°) functions are driven by gas springs, providing fast and low-force articulation that can be activated with minimal caregiver effort.
The chair-position function coordinates backrest and knee gatch movements to convert the stretcher into a semi-seated chair position, enabling the patient to sit up for examination, recovery, or oral intake without being transferred to a separate seating surface. This reduces the total number of patient handling events in a clinical episode.
Push handles at the end of the bed — which can also function as IV pole holders — allow two caregivers to share the physical load of stretcher transportation in corridors, ramps, and elevator lobbies.
