Manual Transfer Stretcher

ToronCare™ 1140 A is an advanced manual transfer stretcher that extends the proven ToronCare™ 1140 platform with enhanced backrest articulation indicators and gas-spring-controlled retractable PP side railings, providing a highly functional hospital stretcher bed for facilities requiring precision patient positioning combined with seamless transfer capability.

A key differentiating feature of the ToronCare™ 1140 A is the angle indicator system: fixed under both sides of the backrest section, these indicators display exact backrest elevation angles at a glance, enabling clinical staff to precisely position patients during stretcher transport to operating rooms, imaging suites, or procedure areas. This is particularly valuable for patients with respiratory compromise, spinal injuries, or post-surgical positioning requirements.

The damping PP retractable side railings are controlled by gas spring — the same technology used in premium surgical O.R. tables — ensuring that the rails lower smoothly and retract flush under the bed board surface without impact or noise. This creates a gap-free, seamless contact surface with adjacent operating tables or hospital beds, enabling safe lateral patient transfer without any lift. At 75 kg net weight, the ToronCare™ 1140 A is an ideal medical stretcher transport platform for general wards, emergency departments, and surgical areas across U.S. and Canadian healthcare settings.

Theory and Method

ToronCare™ 1140 A employs a manual crank-driven scissor-lift mechanism for height adjustment from 860 to 505 mm (bed board to ground). The crank drive provides smooth, stepless elevation through the full height range, maintaining patient stability at all positions.

The angle indicator system consists of graduated angle scales fixed bilaterally beneath the backrest articulation joint. As the backrest is raised or lowered, a corresponding pointer tracks the angle, providing direct visual feedback without the need for a separate goniometer or estimation. This ensures documentation-quality accuracy for position-sensitive patient transport.

The gas-spring-controlled PP side railings retract under the bed board surface by compressing the spring mechanism — a controlled, damped motion that prevents sudden drops or impact forces. In the retracted position, the rail surface is flush with the underside of the bed board, enabling the ToronCare™ 1140 A to dock directly against operating tables or beds without any gap, allowing the patient to slide laterally in a single controlled movement. On release, the gas spring returns the rail to its upright safety position automatically.
