Tissue Cold Plate - ToronTES™ TCP

Tissue Cold Plate ToronTES™ TCP is a compact Cold Plate designed to cool embedded tissue blocks quickly after paraffin embedding and before sectioning. It can work as part of an embedding center or as a standalone unit beside a microtome, giving labs more flexibility in tissue-processing workflows. Tissue Cold Plate - ToronTES™ TCP is an independent cold plate with automated control, multi-level safety protection, and fast, even cooling performance.

This Tissue Cold Plate is intended to help harden paraffin blocks efficiently so specimens are easier to trim, section, and handle. A compressor-type cooling system is used for the cooling table, with temperature reaching as low as -20°C and pull-down time of about 5 to 10 minutes. That makes it a practical option for pathology and histology labs that need dependable block cooling without adding unnecessary complexity to the bench.

Tissue Cold Plate - ToronTES™ TCP Applications

  • Histology and pathology laboratories: a Cold Plate is commonly used in histology and pathology workflows to cool paraffin blocks after embedding. ToronTES™ TCP helps stabilize the embedded specimen so it can be trimmed and sectioned more cleanly during microtomy.
  • Tissue embedding workflows: this Tissue Cold Plate is designed as part of the embedding-center process. It can be placed beside a microtome or used independently, which supports more efficient specimen transfer from embedding to sectioning.
  • Research and teaching laboratories: ToronTES™ TCP is also suitable for research and training labs that prepare paraffin-embedded samples and need a compact, easy-to-use cooling station for routine block handling.
  • Multi-sample laboratory processing: the unit is suitable for labs that process anything from smaller daily batches to higher volumes of tissue cassettes and molds.

Tissue Cold Plate - ToronTES™ TCP Key Features

  • Independent or integrated use: ToronTES™ TCP can work as part of an embedding center or as a standalone Cold Plate beside the microtome. This gives labs more layout flexibility.
  • Fast cooling performance: the cooling surface can reach about -20°C within 5 to 10 minutes. This helps shorten the time between embedding and block trimming.
  • Compressor-based cooling system: a compressor-type cooling method is used for the cooling table, supporting stable low-temperature operation for routine lab use.
  • Automated control system: an automated processor control system, which supports straightforward daily operation.
  • Multi-level protection: a multilevel security protection system, adding practical operating protection for laboratory use.
  • Even cooling design: technology intended to support quick and even thermal performance, which is useful when multiple blocks are placed on the plate surface.

Theory and Method

A Tissue Cold Plate works by transferring heat away from freshly embedded paraffin blocks so the wax hardens in a controlled way. Once cooled, the block becomes more stable for trimming, handling, and microtome sectioning. That is why a Cold Plate is often placed directly after the embedding step in tissue-processing workflows.

ToronTES™ TCP uses compressor-based cooling to bring the plate surface down to low temperature quickly. The cooling table can reach about -20°C in roughly 5 to 10 minutes. This helps reduce waiting time between embedding and sectioning while keeping the workflow simple and consistent.

Because the unit can operate independently from the embedding center, labs can place it where it best fits the workflow. That can help reduce unnecessary movement between embedding, cooling, and microtomy stations.
