Bulky Waste Processing System - ToronBWS™ 200TS
Bulky Waste Processing System — Transfer Station Configuration
The Bulky Waste Processing System reduces oversized waste at the point of transfer, feeding directly into a transfer station's compaction stage rather than running as a standalone processing line. Torontech built this configuration around a tower-structure layout: a infeed hopper and auxiliary feeder sit above a dual shaft shredder, which discharges shredded material through a belt conveyor toward the compression station below. Transfer stations, municipal waste facilities, and construction and demolition recyclers use it to cut bulky waste volume before it moves further into disposal or recycling.
Waste enters through the infeed hopper, and the auxiliary feeder moves material into the dual shaft shredder in a controlled, continuous stream. The shredder reduces the material integrally in one pass, and a magnetic separator pulls out ferrous metal before the remaining shredded material reaches the discharge belt conveyor. A maintenance platform built into the tower frame gives operators direct access to the shredder and feed system for inspection and blade service.
Because the unit discharges straight into the compaction stage, it removes a separate handling and transport step that a ground-level shredding line would otherwise require. This tower configuration suits transfer station sites where floor space is limited and waste needs to move from intake to compaction with minimal intermediate handling.
Bulky Waste Processing System - ToronBWS™ 200TS Applications
The Bulky Waste Processing System is built for facilities that need to shred bulky, oversized material on-site before it moves to compaction or transport.
- Waste Transfer Stations: shreds bulky waste directly ahead of the compaction stage, cutting the number of loads needed for offsite transport
- Wooden Pallet Recycling: reduces whole wood pallets, including those with embedded nails, into manageable pieces for downstream wood processing
- Construction Formwork Disposal: processes nailed construction formwork and bamboo plywood, separating metal fasteners from the wood fraction during shredding
- Garden and Landscape Waste Management: reduces pruned branches, trunks, and other green waste to a size suitable for composting or biomass fuel
- Municipal Solid Waste Pretreatment: cuts the volume of bulky household items collected through municipal bulky waste programs before compaction
- Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste Recycling: handles mixed wood and metal debris from demolition sites ahead of material recovery

Bulky Waste Processing System - ToronBWS™ 200TS Key Features
The tower-structure design combines feeding, shredding, and metal separation into a single vertical footprint built to sit directly over a transfer station's compaction equipment.
- Efficient Feeding: the auxiliary feeder and infeed hopper meter bulky material into the shredder at a controlled rate, reducing blockages and overload
- Tower Structure Shredding: an elevated tower layout positions the shredder to discharge directly into the compaction stage, removing a separate transport step
- dual shaft shredder: shears and tears mixed-composition bulky waste, including nailed wood and metal-reinforced formwork, without frequent jamming
- Magnetic Separator: recovers ferrous metal such as nails and brackets from the shredded material stream for scrap resale
- Maintenance Platform: gives operators direct access to the shredder and feed system for inspection, blade changes, and routine service
- Discharge Belt Conveyor: carries shredded material from the shredder outlet to the compaction stage or downstream handling point
Theory and Method
The dual shaft shredder reduces bulky waste through a low-speed, high-torque shearing action rather than a high-speed cutting action. Two counter-rotating shafts fitted with interlocking cutting discs pull material downward from the infeed hopper and tear it apart between the shafts. This shearing motion lets the shredder process mixed-composition items, such as nailed pallets or metal-reinforced formwork, without the jamming that a single-blade or high-speed cutter would experience on embedded fasteners.
The auxiliary feeder positioned above the shredder controls the rate at which material enters the shredding chamber. Rather than relying on gravity feed alone, the feeder meters bulky or irregularly shaped items into the shredder inlet, keeping the shredder loaded at a consistent rate and reducing the risk of chamber overload or blockage from oversized pieces.
Once shredded, the magnetic separator removes ferrous fragments, such as nails and metal brackets from formwork or pallets, using a fixed magnet positioned over the material stream. Ferrous pieces are pulled upward and out of the flow while the remaining shredded wood or green waste continues onto the discharge belt conveyor, separating recoverable metal from the bulk material without manual sorting.
