Brake Fluid Testing Optical Refractometer
Brake Fluid Testing Optical Refractometer – ToronOR™ BFT Series
A handheld Optical Refractometer in the ToronOR™ BFT Series is designed for quick brake-fluid condition checks using direct optical scales instead of electronic testers. The ToronOR™ BFT series are positioned for screening brake-fluid boiling point, water content, and standard-fluid reference scales in a compact analog format.
A brake-fluid Refractometer measures how light bends through a brake-fluid sample, then converts that change into a direct scale reading inside the eyepiece. In this category, the scales are configured around boiling point, water contamination, and reference brake-fluid condition, which makes the result easier to interpret for service work than a general-purpose refractometer. The ToronOR™ BFT 100 is used for measuring standard DOT3 brake fluid, boiling point, and water content of brake fluid at high temperature or in running.
This is what makes the ToronOR™ BFT Series different from a general Optical Refractometer. A general refractometer may show Brix, salinity, or refractive index only, while these models are scaled for brake-fluid screening and maintenance checks. That makes them more practical for garages, fleet service, racing support, and workshop inspection where fast decisions matter.
Brake Fluid Testing Optical Refractometer – ToronOR™ BFT Series Application
- Brake-fluid condition screening: These models are intended for checking brake fluid in service environments where technicians want a quick visual indication of condition.
- Water contamination assessment: Water contamination lowers brake-fluid boiling point and can affect braking reliability under heat. The ToronOR™ BFT 100 is used for measuring water content of brake fluid at high temperature or in running, which makes it useful for maintenance checks tied to moisture pickup in service fluid.
- Boiling-point evaluation for service and performance use: Both models include a 250°F to 500°F boiling-point scale, and the RBF model specifically references high-temperature / running brake-fluid checks and high-temp (Fords and racing) boiling-point use. That makes the series suitable for workshop screening where technicians want a quick interpretation of brake-fluid heat performance.
- Routine workshop and fleet brake checks: The ToronOR™ BFT 200 can be used in the brake check system, which supports positioning for routine brake-service workflows, fleet maintenance, and general automotive inspection. The manual, no-power design also makes it practical for portable field use.

Theory and Method
Each handheld Refractometer uses a prism and ambient light to create a visible boundary line in the eyepiece. A few drops of brake fluid are placed on the prism, the cover is closed, and the operator reads the corresponding scale for boiling point, water contamination, or standard-fluid reference. These instruments use ambient light only, require no battery or power source, and include Refractometer for easier routine use.
The purpose of this method is fast maintenance screening rather than full regulatory fluid certification.
Brake Fluid Testing Optical Refractometer – ToronOR™ BFT Series Technical Specification
| Model | What this model is for | Scale details | Best-fit use case | Common build / package details |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ToronO R™ BFT 100 | A brake-fluid refractometer focused on standard DOT3 brake fluid, plus boiling-point and moisture-related screening at higher-temperature service conditions. It is used for measuring standard DOT3 brake fluid, boiling point, and water content of brake fluid at high temperature or in running, and it also references high-temp (Fords and racing) use. | Title-listed scales: DOT3 standard fluids, boiling point 250–500°F, 1–6 H2O, and high-temp boiling-point interpretation. | Best for workshops and performance-oriented service teams that want a more specific DOT3-centered brake-fluid check with added attention to high-temperature fluid condition. | Pure aluminum body, ambient-light operation, manual focus/calibration, non-slip rubber grip, ATC 10°C–30°C, and package set of refractometer, pipette, mini screwdriver, protective carrying case, manual, and clean cloth. |
| ToronO R™ BFT 200 | A simpler brake-fluid refractometer for brake check system use. The ToronOR™ BFT 200 models can be used in the brake check system, making it the more straightforward general-service option in the series. | Title-listed scales: 1–6% standard and 250°F–500°F boiling point. brake-check description. | Best for routine garage and fleet maintenance where technicians want a quick visual brake-fluid screening tool without the more specific DOT3 / high-temp | Pure aluminum body, ambient-light operation, manual focus/calibration, non-slip rubber grip, ATC 10°C–30°C, and package set of refractometer, pipette, mini screwdriver, protective carrying case, manual, and clean cloth. |
