The ToronCare™ 6110 replaces manual crank mechanisms with four linear motors, one driving each major positioning function. A linear motor converts an electrical signal into direct mechanical push-and-pull force along a straight axis. This differs from the rotational force a crank applies through a screw. The nurse control panel uses this to move the backrest, kneerest, height, and tilt functions independently at the press of a button. No manual leading screw effort is required.
Positioning still follows the same physiological logic that applies to any adjustable bed. Raising the backrest lowers the diaphragm and reduces the resistance the lungs work against, improving lung expansion and ventilation. Trendelenburg tilt uses gravity to help drain secretions and support venous return, while reverse Trendelenburg tilt shifts blood volume away from the head to help manage intracranial pressure. The auto-contour function applies backrest and kneerest movement together to reach a stable semi-reclining position in one step.
