Automatic Glass coverslipping that takes the last manual step out of slide preparation.
A coverslipper applies glass cover slips to stained slides automatically, sealing each section under a film of resinous mounting medium. Histology and pathology laboratories use these units to take the last manual step out of slide preparation and to move xylene handling off the open bench. Torontech supplies a compact standalone model that works alongside an existing stainer. Rack compatibility decides the fit.
The mounting medium has to refract light close to glass, near an index of 1.5, or the image softens under the microscope. Automated dispensing controls resin volume and spread, which holds bubbles and overflow down and gives whole slide scanners a clean field. Enclosed operation with carbon filtration handles the solvent. Slides then stay readable for years in the case record.
Applications
Coverslipping sits at the end of every staining workflow, so the same instrument serves several parts of the laboratory.
- Surgical Pathology: seals H&E and special stain slides after staining, replacing the repetitive hand-mounting step at the end of the run.
- Cytology Screening: covers Papanicolaou and non-gynecologic preparations, where clarity through the mountant affects how quickly a screener works.

Automatic Glass Coverslipper (ToronCVS™ 100)
A benchtop glass coverslipper running at 600 slides per hour, narrow enough at 388 mm to fit beside an existing stainer. It accepts racks from all major stainer platforms, so a laboratory can add coverslipping without replacing working equipment. Circular motion dispensing lays an even resin film with few bubbles. A 200-coverslip magazine and 60-slide output store cover long unattended runs.
How to Choose the Right Coverslipper
- If you already own a stainer: choose the ToronCVS™ 100, since rack compatibility across major platforms means slides transfer straight across with no proprietary carrier.
- For bench space between existing instruments: the ToronCVS™ 100 at 388 mm wide fits gaps a full-size coverslipper cannot.
- For long unattended runs: check magazine and output capacity together. The ToronCVS™ 100 holds 200 cover glasses and stores 60 finished slides.
- If you are replacing the stainer as well: look at the integrated Slide Stainers and Coverslippers range instead, where staining and covering run in one cabinet.
- On cover glass size: the ToronCVS™ 100 takes 24 mm wide cover glass at 40 to 60 mm long. Confirm this matches what your laboratory stocks.
- On solvent handling: any unit you choose should enclose the mounting step and filter the exhaust, since xylene exposure accumulates across a shift.
