Theory and Method
The ToronFT™ CB evaluates carpet burning performance by positioning a carpet specimen in the test chamber and applying a standardized ignition source according to the applicable test method. The test chamber, with internal dimensions of 380mm × 380mm × 380mm, provides a consistent enclosed environment that minimizes external drafts and variables.
A 45-degree mirror positioned at the top of the chamber allows the operator to observe and record the burning behavior of the specimen from above without disturbing the test environment. The chamber walls, constructed from asbestos tiles and steel reinforcement, ensure thermal stability and operator safety throughout the carpet burning test. The outcome is assessed based on flame spread extent, char area, and heat shrinkage of the specimen.
