A Universal Testing Machine (UTM) is used to test both the tensile and compressive strength of materials. Universal Testing Machines are named as such because they can perform many different varieties of tests on an equally diverse range of materials, components, and structures. Most UTM models are modular, and can be adapted to fit the customer’s needs.

Universal Testing Machines can accommodate many kinds of materials, ranging from hard samples, such as metals and concrete, to flexible samples, such as rubber and textiles. This diversity makes the Universal Testing Machine equally applicable to virtually any manufacturing industry.

XRF Analyzer - XRF Spectrometers

XRF Analyzers: X-ray fluorescence (XRF) provides one of the simplest, most accurate and economical methods for multi-element analysis. X-ray fluorescence (XRF) is basically the emission of characteristic "secondary" (or fluorescent) X-rays from a material that has been excited by bombarding with high-energy X-rays or gamma rays. The phenomenon is widely used for elemental analysis and chemical analysis, particularly in the investigation of metals, glass, ceramics and building materials, and for research in geochemistry, forensic science, and archaeology.

When materials are exposed to short-wavelength X-rays or to gamma rays, the ionization of their component atoms may take place. Ionization consists of the ejection of one or more electrons from the atom and may occur if the atom is exposed to radiation with an energy greater than its ionization potential. X-rays and gamma rays can be energetic enough to expel tightly held electrons from the inner orbitals of the atom. The removal of an electron in this way renders the electronic structure of the atom unstable, and electrons in higher orbitals "fall" into the lower orbital to fill the hole left behind. In falling, energy is released in the form of a photon, the energy of which is equal to the energy difference of the two orbitals involved. Thus, the material emits radiation, which has an energy characteristic of the atoms present. The term fluorescence is applied to phenomena in which the absorption of radiation of a specific energy results in the re-emission of radiation of different energy (generally lower).

The scrap metals industry has experienced great change over recent years. Alloy mix-up costs have been steadily increasing due to volatile metal prices and the globalization of trade within the industry. These higher and more volatile prices have put pressure on suppliers, distributors, and consumers to look for cost advantage opportunities in their business models.

Speed and accuracy in scrap metals sorting has always been fundamental to the profitability of any scrap recycling operation. With the advent of increasing prices and costs across the industry, the need for operational efficiency has never been more important. X-ray fluorescence (XRF) technology has forever changed the landscape of the scrap metals industry by presenting a revolutionary solution that increases the operational efficiency of industry participants. XRF analyzers have made the metal and alloys analysis process, easy and quick.

Mobile, handheld XRF metal analyzers are highly accurate and designed to be used anywhere. They are used to analyze and identify metals and alloys throughout the various phases of scrap metals processing. Handheld XRF metal analyzers are the preferred analysis tool for scrap metals inflow inspections, monitoring production processes, and final pre-delivery inspections. Additionally, these mobile XRF metal analyzers have found major applications in scrap yards, at building sites, in chemical plants, and many more.

Stationary, tabletop XRF metal analyzers offer extremely high accuracy. These instruments have found a wide range of applications including process control in the metal production industry, quality control during metal processing, and research and development in laboratories.

Torontech™ XRF Analyzers are engineered to provide the industry with a sorting analysis tool that is lightning fast, easy to use, and produces more accurate results with laser-like precision. Use our XRF instruments on virtually all types of metal alloys to analyze and detect nearly every element of interest. With our Spectra line of XRF analyzers, be able to measure metal concentrations at minute trace levels to concentrations in a commercially pure form.

With the advances in spectroscopy technology, archaeologists are relying on a variety of methods to analyze archaeological and historical artifacts. X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy technology is emerging as the popular choice of archaeologists. The introduction of portable systems that offer non-destructive testing of samples has enabled archaeologists and historians to perform in-situ testing without damaging artifacts and specimens. Portable XRF analyzers are becoming the standard and preferred equipment choice of archaeologists and historians worldwide.
